There is something about the Beach

Written April 15, 2020

People write songs about it.  Movies are often filmed on it.   There is something magical about the Beach.

I didn’t go to the beach until I was 13 or 14 years old.   And then I didn’t go again for about the same number of years.   When I experienced the beach again as an adult, I couldn’t understand why anyone wouldn’t go as often as possible.   And since this quarantine, I’ve been craving that salty air and toes in the sand even more.

Andy proposed to me on Pier 60 at Clearwater Beach so I will always have a special place in my heart for that particular beach.   I also prefer the Gulf’s white sand overall, but right now, I would go to any beach at all.   There is something about sitting on the beach and listening to the waves crash that makes everything seem okay.  And let’s face it, we could all use that feeling right now.

Because I love lists, here are some of the things I am dreaming about the most when it comes to the beach right now.

  1. The salty air – Mmm I love that smell.  And it just seems cleaner.  I am convinced I could go to the beach and coronavirus couldn’t get me there.   Huge disclosure, I am completely wrong about that.  Don’t go to the beach thinking you can’t get it.  I’m quarantine crazy right now.
  2. Sunrises/sunsets – Ahhhh I miss them. There are so few places you can see the full sunrise/sunset anyway.   And then to see it with the ocean and sand there.  It’s captivating.
  3. Seafood – Fresh seafood is amazing.  If you don’t think you like seafood and haven’t had it fresh at the beach, maybe try it there because it is totally different.  I’m salivating just thinking about it.
  4. Dolphins – I have always loved dolphins.  My theme in my bedroom growing up was dolphins at one point.   There are such beautiful and smart creatures.   I have to resist the urge to jump in and swim with them whenever I get to see them in the ocean.  I need to do some type of dolphin cruise pretty much anytime I am at the beach longer than a day.
  5. Sitting on the beach – I touched on this already, but it has to be in the list too.   If you can catch a day that is not too hot or cold with the right amount of sun and clouds and sit on the beach, I am pretty sure you just found paradise.
  6. People watching – even if you aren’t normally a people person, I think after quarantine we could all enjoy a little people watching on the beach.   People are generally pretty happy at the beach too so it makes for some movie-esque people watching.
  7. Fishing – I couldn’t make a list about the beach without bringing fishing into it.   Andy has introduced me to the world of fishing at the beach and it is pretty awesome.  I caught a baby shark before and felt like the coolest person ever.
  8. Eating and/or drinking on a patio on the beach – I am a sucker for water front dining anywhere, but being on the beach makes it that much more amazing.  Eating fresh seafood while smelling the salty air and people watching might just fix us after all the time we have been cooped up at home lately.

Now I feel like Olaf daydreaming about Summer.  And now I realize my 20 month old has taken over the TV to the point where I reference Frozen without any effort.  Stay healthy and sane out there people.
